Did you know that violations of SC alcohol/liquor laws can result in a minimum $677 fine (includes court costs and fees), 30 days in jail, court costs, mandatory merchant education, and liquor license suspension or revocation?
The Phoenix Center offers the Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP), a comprehensive Merchant Education class to those who sell and serve alcohol in Greenville County. This state-approved curriculum program enables participants to prevent alcohol sales to minors, recognize signs of intoxication, and intervene with patrons who are already intoxicated. Servers, clerks, and bartenders who are trained in server education will greatly reduce liquor liability exposure, improve customer service, and ensure a safer, healthier Greenville County. This training can be provided proactively to businesses that wish to decrease their liability around alcohol and tobacco sales, or reactively to merchants who have received a ticket for selling unlawfully.
Merchant Education through The Phoenix Center offers participants:
- A 3-5 hour training by a certified instructor, either on site at your establishment or at The Phoenix Center
- A customized program that meets your business needs
- Program materials and manuals for each participant
- Opportunities to meet with Greenville Law Enforcement Officers who will work with you to prevent liquor law violations
- Training on current state laws, fake ID's, and liability issues
- A preventing underage tobacco sales component
- 2-year Merchant Education certification
